In the prison camp Glan Evans lived in a large hut with several rooms.

There were 12 beds in his room.

Each room contained a stove to keep the prisoners warm. 

They received a parcel every fortnight from a special organisation called the Red Cross. 

The parcel contained food such as bacon, tinned milk, coffee, chocolate and butter.

Glan lived in the East Compound of Stalag Luft 3.

East Compound contained eight huts or barracks, each with enough beds for 152 prisoners. Two other rooms were kept aside as a library and a games room. These were later filled with beds as the prison got fuller.

Each ‘bedroom’ was about 3 metres by 4 metres and contained a stove to keep the prisoners warm. 

Glan was in Hut 65.

In May 1943 Glan arrived in the East Compound of Stalag Luft 3.

East Compound contained eight barracks, where the prisoners lived; a cookhouse; a bathhouse; two latrine huts; and a fire pool.

Each barracks contained 12 large rooms, equipped with six double-tier bunk beds, and two rooms with two double-tier bunk beds. So in total beds for 152 prisoners. Two other rooms were kept aside as a library and a games room. These were later filled with beds as the prison got fuller.

Each ‘bedroom’ was about 3m by 4m. Each contained a stove. The huts were all built about 60 cm off the ground so that the German guards could look underneath to check if the prisoners were trying to tunnel out.

Glan was in Hut 65.
